Hemet Unified Distributes Thanksgiving Meal Kits to Families in Need

This collaborative effort, now in its sixth year of partnership with the Soboba Foundation and the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians, was spearheaded by HUSD’s Wellness and Community Outreach Center and Nutrition Services Department. The event took place on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the HUSD District Office. Families received meals either through a drive-thru system or home delivery based on their needs. HUSD’s Business and Nutrition Services staff coordinated logistics, with help from Soboba Foundation volunteers and district departments to assemble and distribute meal kits. The HUSD Safety Department collaborated with the Hemet Police Department and Riverside Sheriff's Office to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety.

The Soboba Foundation’s generous donation of over 1,000 meal kits highlights their ongoing commitment to the community and strong partnership with HUSD. Superintendent Christi Barrett expressed gratitude for the collaboration: “We are incredibly thankful for our community partners and staff who dedicate their time and resources to ensure our families can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together. This effort truly embodies the meaning of community.” HUSD’s annual Thanksgiving Giveaway reflects its mission to support families in need, fostering compassion and unity during the holiday season.
